Red Screes via Kilnshaw Chimney

Red Screes, Kirkstone Pass Wainwright fell

On 12th May 2016, an adventurous scramble up Red Screes via Kilnshaw Chimney was undertaken, diverging from the usual pathway from Kirkstone Pass. This challenging route, featuring steep and loose scree, and a tricky rock face, offered a more secluded ascent. Despite the Kirkstone Pass Inn being closed, the journey was rewarded with picturesque views at the summit, where other tarns and pools complement the landscape. The descent required careful navigation, culminating back at a well-equipped but free car park.

A Langdale Classic

Great Slab Bow Fell with Langdale Pikes beyond

On October 3, 2008, Andy embarked on an extensive exploration of Great Langdale, targeting the high tops documented in Wainwright’s Book 4, “The Southern Fells.” His journey included peaks such as Crinkle Crags, Bow Fell, and others, aiming to gather material for his “Wainwrights in Colour” project. Starting early from The Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, the day-long trek through the stunning but rugged terrain was fruitful, capturing essential references and experiencing notable features like Gladstone’s Finger, while documenting the adventure with the limited capabilities of a Fujipix S5500 camera. This endeavour provided both challenging and memorable elements, encapsulating the timeless beauty of these fells.
