Mealt Falls and Kilt Rock are two locations on many visitors agendas when on the Isle of Skye. The car park is adjacent to a viewing point which gives a view of the falls and the distant Kilt Rock but the views are somewhat limited. The best time of day to visit would be in the morning as the sun would shine on both features.
This is mainly a post of a couple of images and a link to a short YouTube film.
The Mealt Falls drop 55m over the cliff edge down into the waters of the Sound of Raasay. As seen from the viewing point with Kilt Rock in the distance.
An aerial view of the falls.
Kilt Rock, a 90m cliff formed by hexagonal basalt columns and dolerite sills. The name comes from the resemblance of the cliff to a kilt.
A drone shot looking south, Mealt Falls and be seen as can Loch Mealt where the burn comes from. The distant skyline is the Trotternish ridge and The Storr. Right in the centre can be seen the new large car park.
It isn’t a location where the photo opportunities are great. The use of a drone comes in very handy, weather permitting. Below is a link to a short YouTube film of our visit.
