Hi Andy – I have the example as: N54.478557 W2.846389 (ish ) is this the correct format for the grid reference?
Hi Mark,
I have updated the page with today’s photo and also given the answer to the example photo. There is also a link to the OS website about calculating grid references. Regards, Andy
Thanks Andy – realised my error in getting GR’s confised with co-ordinates
No problem Mark,ggod luck.
Hi Andy
Your quiz 2022 did not appear in my in box, I did a work around which seemed a long way to eventually get to day 1. Have I done something wrong……..
Hi Tony,
If you have subscribed to the website you should have got an initial alert when the Quess the Fell page was first posted. After that as I only add each day’s photos as a page update you will not get an alert each day I’m afraid.
Thanks Andy, will enjoy working out the questions with fingers crossed I get them right
Brilliantl Andy it wouldn’t be Christmas without it
Always look forward to this – so thanks once again for doing it Andy. Great stuff as per usual.
Thanks Kevin, I hope you find it entertaining this year. Of course I expect to see you entering as an “expert” 🙂
Always great photos, I just wish you’d give the answers after the completion. I’m getting to know more fells but a long way off knowing some areas and some fells I’ll never be able to do. Thanks
Hi Elisabeth, thanks for the comment. I do post all of the answers once all of the days clues have been posted and the winners announced. Remember, you don’t have to know all the answers, just submit an entry with as many as you can. Anyone who enters is still in with a chance of winning a prize. Good Luck.
Thanks, I didn’t see answers last time. I’m going to have a go as now I at least know one fell.
Hi Elisabeth, I am sure that you will know a few more before the end of the quiz. Good Luck.
Thoroughly enjoying the quiz again Andy, keeping me out of the kitchen. Have you recruited a team of post-xmas elves to help with the scoring? Or maybe you’re a closet Excel wizard? Best wishes for the big day.
Thanks for the comment Derek, glad that you are enjoying it. Same elves as usual at this end. All the best to you and yours. Andy
Happy Christmas Andy!
Thank you so much for taking the time to put on the Christmas Quiz once more…thoroughly enjoyable, and whilst researching it’s almost like being in The Lakes without actually being there! Loving the format this year, and the ten figure grid references are proving to be a challenge!
Look forward to the remaining days pictures.
Best regards and season’s greetings to you and your family!
Steve
Happy Christams to you too Steve. Glad that you are enjoying the format for this quiz. I agree about the images, they all bring back great memories for me of having been on the fells and excited to be getting back out there soon- even if it is just the lower ones these days.
All the best,
Andy
Hi Andy,
Really enjoying my first time having a go at your quiz- you are the master of funny angles but I am hanging in there…. just!
However, should a notification be appearing in my inbox? and if not will this prevent me from submitting?
Compliments of the season.
Mark
Hi Mark,
Thanks for having a go at the quiz. As with previous years, once the answers are revealed at the end some of the views are quite obvious. As I only update the quiz page daily and not make a new post for each day you will not get a notictication ech time I add a new clue.
Good luck
Andy
Enjoying the quiz and the level is about right for me. I reckon I know most, but not all, so far, but it has taken quite a lot of thought. I think you’ve set yourself quite a task in the judging by including the Grid References ! Happy New Year !
Hi Tim,
Glad that you are enjoying the quiz and thanks for leaving a comment. There is still plenty of time to go over some of the clues that you are unsure of. Yes, it will be interesting to see how close some of the grid references are 🙂
Good Luck and best wishes for 2023.
Hi Andy
After all the festivity’s I am feeling a little brain dead, Day 16 what do you mean by PG reference
Hi Tony.
I know what you mean. The PG reference is only referring to the guy using a “Pictorial Guide” in his hand to admire the view. 🙂
Wow , what a great set of pics. Quite a few initially look easy but to get the fell from where they are taken is a bit of a teaser. Thanks for taking the time Andy, much appreciated.
Hi Richard,
Thanks for the kind comment, glad that you are enjoying the quiz.
Top quiz yet again Andy, I’ve got answers for all the questions….whether they are right tho…..
Just trying to finalize the GR
Thanks Gregg, good luck.
Andy
Many thanks Andy – another great quiz which has certainly kept me entertained over the Christmas holiday. I’m very pleased there’s a few days for checking … and trying to work out those grid references.
Hi Simon,
Thank you, glad that yuo have been enjoying the quiz. Yes, the GR’s are quite challenging. Good luck!
Guesses assembled, grid references stabbed at, just giving myself a couple of days, then re-check before sending off entry.
Thanks Andy for another great, highly enjoyable quiz. It is a real fun part of Christmas and New Year.
Not holding out much hope for the references but giving the Expert level a go!
Hi Don,
Glad that you enjoyed the quiz. Not a bad idea to re-check your answers before submitting.
Good luck.
Andy
Hi Andy. I have submitted my answers and hope for the best I’ve really enjoyed searching my brain for the answers. I’ve also had a go at the grid feferences which was tricky. Happy New Year.
Hi Mike,
Thanks for entering. Good Luck.
Thanks again Andy, thoroughly enjoyed the format this year. I’m quite pleased with my results on the whole. A few instances where misgivings I had over my answer were fully justified and I should have given it more thought. A lesson for the next quiz, I hope. Grey Friar completely caught me out, but I’ve never seen anything from the top of there! Congratulations to the prizewinners, some impressive knowledge on show! Best wishes, Derek
I really enjoyed trying to figure out where & what I should be able to view. Grey Friar also caught me out, I recognised the cairn , just couldn’t think where from & didn’t have a photo of it. The view was obvious, but I couldn’t put the two together. The pleasure of walking this area is redoing the walks in different weather & at different times of the year. Thanks so much for putting this quiz together.
