Summary: Faulds Brow is a low lying fell rising to the north of the village of Caldbeck. It is an easy fell to access and climb as it lies close to a road off the A5299. A longer and more interested walking route to this fell can be achieved by beginning in the village of Caldbeck. The landscape is pretty barren but scarred with quarries and workings. There are fine views to the south of the Skiddaw range.
Topographical detail: Wainwrights fell height (and the Wainwright summit) was taken off his map of 1125′ and is at the summit cairn shown at GR: NY29948 40708 (shown below). The true high point of the fell is 15m north-west of this point and is at a height of 1128′ 344m
Points of interest: The quarry to the east of the summit is well worth an exploration as are the smaller workings and various holes which are dotted across the fell. AW attributed these to a stick of jettisoned bombs during the war but they are more likely to be small worked holes connected with the quarrying hereabouts. If walking from Caldbeck village a detour to Howk gorge is worth a visit where there is a waterfall, an old Bobbin Mill and The Fairy Kirk (cave).
Tarns: none
Waterfalls: Howk gorge, Caldbeck
Adjoining fells: none
Nearest facilities: Car park (free) in area close to quarry or in Caldbeck Village. Shop (The Kirkland Store), food and accomodation available in Caldbeck village including The Oddfellows Arms and the Watermill cafe
Star rating: [usr 1.5] Despite the fell being low and limited in quality views I would give this the 1.5 rating only because of the added points of interest in nearby Caldbeck village. If a simple ascent is made from the quarry car park the rating would be back down to just 1.
