Wainwright summit: GR: NY11002 20953 1580′ approx. True height: 1558′ 475m (same location)

Summary:

Topographical features: The Wainwright summit and the true summit are at the same point, a metal straining post at the corner of the post and wire fence. The nearby cairn which wasn’t there in AW’s day is at the same height.

Points of interest: 120m south west of the summit are the spoil heaps of an old quarry. These were neither mentioned or marked by AW in the Pictorial Guide.

Tarns: None on the fell. Loweswater is at the north eastern foot of the fell.

Waterfalls: Holme Force in Holme Wood.

Adjoining Fells: Blake Fell, Carling Knott.

Nearest facilities: Car parking
