A short blog on the classic viewpoint near the village of Torrin giving dramatic views of Bla Bheinn (Blaven) across Loch Slapin
On Location: 21st April 2024
Introduction: One of the classic views on the Isle of Skye is that of the mountain Bla Bheinn from near the small crofting village of Torrin. It is actually a very easy shot to obtain and can be done so from the roadside. The variations in weather, season and time of day will provide variations on this theme. It can be reached by travelling along the B8083 road between Broadford and Elgol on the Strathaird peninsular.
Parking: For these few images I pulled the car into a small layby at GR: NG 5714 2138 but there is a much larger parking area just along the road at GR: NG 5716 2131 What Three Words ///reject.sweetened.bitters . Time it right and you may find Mrs Macks wee Takeaway open for refreshments
The scene just begs to be photographed.

Without much effort there are opportunities to come up with your own composition

Whether you include the near shore or not is up to the individual. The small white cottage of Arincreaga on the far side of Loch Slapin gives the scene a sense of scale. With a height of 929m Bla Bheinn is a Munro and is classed as an outlier of the Black Cuillin.

In black and white the mountain really looks rugged and impressive.
Usually this stop-off is done when travelling either too or from Elgol, this gives more than one opportunity to capture this scene at different times of day and maybe in different weather.
Have you already been here? Did you do anything different for a better view? Why not let me know in the comments.
I know that this blog is only short but I hope that you found it helpful.
Thanks for reading.
