Sketchbooks

Update 5th Jan 2023. Here you will find samples of some of the sketchbooks which I have filled over the years. I have uploaded the first couple as examples below for now. They is animated so that you can get the feel of the actual sketchbook with out physically having it in front of you. I have included all of the sketches, both good and bad. Some are better than others, this all depends on the subject, weather conditions and time. But the main task is to capture the scene as I see it in the field. Final paintings will normally be produced using these sketches and my own photographs. Please note that the sketchbooks and pages are not for sale.

As a background of how these sketches are produced why not have a look at this film which shows me working on one in real time.

Andy Beck Sketchbook- Volume One.

A 5″x 7″ landscape format sketchbook. 90lb Bockingford watercolour paper. August 2020. Click on the option for “Full Screen“(the crossed arrows) to get the best effect.

Andy Beck Sketchbook- Volume Two

Another 5″ x 7″ landscape sketchbook. Again with many subjects from here in Teesdale. Click on the option for “Full Screen“(the crossed arrows) to get the best effect.

I would like to hear your thoughts on this way of showing my sketchbooks. Did it work well for you? Would you like to see more? Have any questions about the sketches or methods? Why not leave a comment below and I will reply as soon as possible. Thanks for watching.

  3. Hi Andy,
Great to meet you yesterday and to learn a little more about your work.
I think the way of displaying your sketch books is brilliant…as said above, just like turning the pages in a real sketchbook.
Love the content too, and look forward to seeing more.
    Cheers
    Steve
